It seems fitting that our final National Performer of the Week presented by New Balance winner goes to a newly-minted record-holder.

Just a week ago, Newbury Park's Colin Sahlman surpassed a 21-year-old record formerly held by Dathan Ritzenhein -- considered one of the all-time GOATS in high school cross country -- by clocking the fastest 5K ever recorded in high school history in 14:03.29 at the Garmin RunningLane Cross Country Championships.

Now, record-setters don't always win NPOTW.

After all, it's a fan vote, and each week a long list of nominees are represented on the poll.

But with just a few races on the docket last week, and with Sahlman -- er, Newbury Park -- doing the unthinkable, it seems only right that he was awarded.

Sahlman earned 74-percent of the vote for Week 17 and claimed the season's last honor on Friday. The National Performer of the Week poll will re-start over the 2022 new year.

A big congrats goes out to Colin on the honor, and to all the other nominees.

We are requesting winners (or their parents or coaches) from each week to email Cory Mull at cory.mull@flosports.tv and Olivia Ekpone at olivia.ekpone@flosports.tv to notify us of your contact.

For NPOTW winners dating all the way back to July 12, we haven't forgotten about you! We have kept track of your information and will email you once the New Balance order goes out. Stay tuned!
