In the pantheon of closes finishes for the National Performer of the Week presented by New Balance poll, Week 8 was among the greatest votes ever.

Over 4,000 ballots were cast throughout the week and 3,715 votes were tallied between Chelsea's (AL) Miles Brush and Hilliard Davidson's (OH) Connor Ackley

Only 21 ballots separated the two athletes.

In the end, though, Brush took home top honors, earning 1,868 votes after his win at the Jesse Owens Classic on Oct. 2.

Brush secured a season best time of 15:10.47, which currently stands as the second-best 5K performance in Alabama.

Less than a handful of times has that combination of voting volume in the NPOTW ever culminated with that kind of finish. So a big kudos goes out to all the voters and to Brush and Ackley specifically.

Now let's move on to Week 9 of the NPOTW XC poll.

Make sure you vote for whom you think should win this week's honor. Voting will end Friday, and we'll recognize the winner every Monday during the unveiling of the newest poll. Better yet, each boy and girl winner will win a pair of New Balance shoes.

We are requesting winners (or their parents or coaches) from each week to email Cory Mull at cory.mull@flosports.tv and Olivia Ekpone at olivia.ekpone@flosports.tv to notify us of your contact.

Vote below in the poll and let us know your thoughts in the comments. You can also vote in our National Girls Performer of the Week poll.
