1. Nico Young's Incredible National Record Run At Millrose

- - -

By February, Nico Young had experience going into races ... with the expectation that they would hurt.

The previous April, he had run with Valor Christian's Cole Sprout in nearly identical formation during an elite 3,200m, making a final move with a few meters left and winning in an incredible US No. 2 all-time run of 8:40.00.

The following December, he set record after course record and then won Nike Cross Nationals in a top time of 14:52.30 -- through ridiculous conditions, mind you.

So when he was invited into the professional field of the 3K in February at The Millrose Games, Young set his sights on a goal of which was just within his reach.

He cruised early on, sticking within a pack and logging split after consistent split.

While he fell off of American Junior Record pace in the final four laps, he stayed on the high school national record and shattered the mark, posting a time of 7:56.97, which was a time that broke both the indoor and outdoor record.

It was his only indoor performance of 2020 and just his second across his high school career.

He made it count.
