Ewert, if defined in one word, is driven. Driven not only to set new goals, but to reach them each and every season. It's what makes her tick. And when you consider how difficult it is to cut time in an event such as the racewalk, where technique is the No. 1 priority, then you begin to understand just how remarkable her accomplishments have been.
In January, Ewert, a senior at Beavercreek High School and a University of Arkansas signee, dropped 24 seconds from her own American Junior Record in the 3K racewalk, claiming a finishing time of 13 minutes, 00.56 seconds at The VA Showcase.
It was an extraordinary display of skill and resolve within an event that requires patience and the utmost focus. For her efforts, she landed the 14th-best time in the world, though it was not ratified.
If that wasn't enough, Ewert also secured the nation's third-fastest 2-mile time in 10:18.94 and the eighth-fastest mile effort in 4:50.07.
