    10. A State Record Pole Vault Clearance

      - - -

Orchard Park's (NY) Leah Pasqualetti wrote herself into the record books in February.

The senior cleared 14 feet, 3 inches in the pole vault to earn a New York State record as well as a US No. 6 all-time mark. Pasqualetti became the fifth-best vaulter of all-time just behind Cabot's (AR) Lexi Jacobus.

And it seemed each time Pasqualetti was on the runway she was bound to do big things. Her seasons started with a clearance of 12-2 in December, but then each meet she progressed higher and higher.

A three-week stretch was critical to her success. She cleared 13-3 at the Section 5/6 Battle of the West on January 18, then went 14-0 at the Trent Jackson/Cedric Walker Invite the very next week. On Feb. 1, she hit her biggest vault at the Groundhog Classic, posting her 14-3 height.

She went undefeated on the year and won high school events at The NYRR Millrose Games, the 86th Eastern States Championships, the Section 6 State Qualifier and the NYSPHSAA -NY State Champs.
