A Southern California heat wave didn't stop California's distance stars from making history, as a pair of state champions left their mark in Clovis.
Clovis North's (Calif.) Conor Lott and Montgomery's (Calif.) Hanne Thomsen shined at the CIF State Track & Field Championships. Their big-time runs earned them COROS Distance Athlete of the Week honors.

At his first-ever CIF State Track & Field Championships, the Bronco junior left it all on the track, running a PB to win his first 1600m state title. After running 4:09.42 in the prelims, Lott dropped a 56-second bell lap to pull away from the field in 4:03.32. While this was Lott's first state title on the track, it was his second this academic year, pairing nicely with his cross country state title from November. Lott ranks No. 2 all-time in Division I history, and No. 8 in overall state history.
HANNE THOMSEN, Montgomery (Calif.)
Class of 2025

It was a historic weekend for the future Stanford Cardinal, as Thomsen picked up her fifth state title, winning the 3200m in the second-fastest time in California history, crossing in 9:49.98. Thomsen was just over a third of a second shy of the state record, now only trailing Thousand Oaks' standout Kim Mortensen, who ran 9:48.59 in 1996. Thomsen also finished runner-up in the 1600m, notching a six-second PB of 4:35.69. She sits No. 5 in state history.
