Watch Maximo Zavaleta win Ten Ten Elite 1600m in a thriller over Cooper Steam by .01 seconds
Class of 2026
--
Maximo Zavaleta continued his winning ways with a major win in The Ten Elite HS Mile in a new PR of 4:06.02 by just .01 seconds ahead of Cooper Stream (Vacaville) over 1600m. Zavaleta is now four for four in winning the 1600m or Mile this season including wins at the Hi-Racer Meet Of Champions in 4:09.34 and the Redondo Nike Invitational in 4:08.93. His win at Hi-Racer was a narrow one as well winning in 4:10.91 to 4:10.98 over Cameron Yarbrough ca (Del Norte).
He's proven to be comfortable with an honest pace and shown the ability to close well in those races. At The Ten he got out to the front sitting in second through 400m in 1:02.99. He'd pick up the pace on the second lap and move into the lead coming through 800m in 2:03.88. He'd hold a slight lead over Stream at the bell through in 3:06.88 and hold off Stream over the final 400m closing in 59.39 seconds.
Zavaleta was the CIF Division 3 Runner-Up to Conor Lott (Clovis North) during cross country. He ran 4:08.63 as a sophomore, then 4:07.15 as a junior for 1600m. The consistency over the early part of the season gives him his best start to a season so far showing we're going to see a big senior season out of him.
Elite Boys 1600 Meter Run Finals

Class of 2026
---
Chiara Dailey of La Jolla set a new 3200m personal best at a Dual Meet running 9:53.38. This breaks her previous personal best of 9:58.02 that was run in similar fashion a year ago at a CIF Tri Meet. There was only one other girl in the field, but is likely that it was combined with the boys 3200m where she could race against her younger brother Jett Dailey, a sophomore, who won the boys race in 9:45.69.
Last spring Dailey was the CIFSDS 3200m Section Champion running 10:15.74 in addition to winning the 1600m in 4:43.57. She placed 3rd at the CIF State Track and field championships only competing in the 1600m running 4:42.30. She holds a full One Mile PR of 4:39.14. She was also the CIF State Champion for Division 4 this fall winning by 28 seconds in 16:52.7.
