No. 19: Brayden Marshall
- - -
School: Winfield (WV)
Year: 2024
2022 Notable Finishes: 23rd at Champs Sports Nationals in 15:36.10; 8th at Champs Sports South in 15:00.23; 1st at WVSSAC State XC in 15:50.11; 2nd at Louisville XC Classic in 15:35.60; 14:57.10 at Dutch Miller Invitational.
Analysis: Marshall is off to a flying start.
The West Virginian ran a career best 14:56.74 on Aug. 19 to open his campaign at the Autumn Classic. That's not too surprising, considering he ran 14:57.10 to open his campaign a year ago, too.
But what matters is what last year's start led to, a national berth. This year, Marshall likely will be goal-setting for a similar result.
After testing himself at the Louisville XC Classic (2nd), he went on to win his region meet and then his second straight West Virginia AA title in 15:50.11. An eighth-place finish at Champs Sports South then led to an appearance at Champs Sports Nationals, where he was 23rd.
Marshall's outdoor season was his best yet. He ran 1:57 for 800m, 4:13.82 for 1,600m and 8:56.62 for 3,200m, all personal bests. What's the Big Ice Track Club prez going to offer for 2023? That's up for him to determine.
