Analysis: The University of Tennessee recruit will vie for his third straight state title this year, and he also could be a sneaky candidate to chase after a top five finish at nationals.
So all eyes will be on Liebert, who's coming off the most successful campaign of his career yet. He finished the 2022 season with a sixth-place finish at the Garmin RunningLane XC Championships in 15:20.50 and claimed his second straight state win in South Carolina with a performance of 15:13.92 for 5K.
His fastest race of the year came at the Southern Showcase (also in Huntsville, Ala.), as Liebert ran 14:54.60 on a pristine John Hunt Park course to submit a fourth-place finish. Liebert won four times across seven races in 2022.
He followed with two outdoor titles in South Carolina, clocking times of 4:11.04 and 9:05.95 at the state meet. He ran a 3,200m best of 8:53.80 in May.
