West Virginia athletes weren't playing around on Saturday on the Cabell Midland XC course in Ona.

From top to bottom in the Class AAA races, we saw elite-level performances from Irene Riggs, Ty Steorts, the University boys and the Morgantown girls.

Riggs, however, will likely get main headlines here because of her performance.

The Stanford recruit hasn't raced a ton this fall, though by no fault of her own. An appearance at the Great American Festival got shutdown when Hurricane Ian rolled up on the east coast in September.

But perhaps that gave Riggs more time to load up and train. Following a win at the Group AAA Regional in 16:57, Riggs followed with her best performance of the season, hitting 16:32.32 on the clock to win her third straight AAA title.

On top of it, she picked up the top speed rating of the season with a 167.

Along for the ride, too, was her Morgantown girls, who went 4-8-9-10 and compiled a 126 speed rating average -- noticeably an elite, national-level performance.

On the boys side, Hurricane's Steort finished out his regular season with aplomb, too, clocking a time of 15:27.14. It was his fifth straight win and his seventh overall.

The University boys, showing that the graduate of Josh Edwards didn't completely alter their scope and appeal, won the Class AAA title with a blitzing performance, compiling a speed rating average of 175.
