The girl of the hour was, of course, Ciara O'Shea, the blue-chip star from Madison Central High School.

The University of North Carolina recruit once again put on a show, winning her fifth straight Kentucky Class 3A cross country title -- dating back to her eighth-grade season -- this time in 17:07.60, which was a career best at Bourbon County park for O'Shea.

The next closest was Dupont Manual's Jessica Secor, who was second in 18:07.

O'Shea, like always, was in sixth gear for this one.

How do you do it, Kentucky MileSplit later asked.

"I think just kind of, taking each celebration, having a good time. But then, just completely re-setting and re-focusing on the next race and the next big race coming up to keep me grounded in my training and keep me focused on getting better each day."
