Weekend Preview: The Top Five Meets To Watch Around The U.S.

INDEX:

BYU Autumn Classic

- - -

When: September 11

Where: East Bay Golf Course -- Brigham Young University

The BYU Autumn Classic in Provo will be a meet to watch for.

The biggest matchup will be for the boys team title. Farmington (UT) is one of the favorites after coming off a solid win at the Top of Utah XC Invitational. The team's top five runners crossed the finish line in the top nine. The split between Britton Austin and Spencer Bradshaw, who finished first and fifth, was 53 seconds.

However, no one should count out Mountain View (UT), as the team has been on a roll after upsetting American Fork (UT) last week at the Timpanogos XC Invitational in Orem, Utah.

Mountain View scored 77 points to American Fork's 84 and had a 15:53 average.

Many of the Utah teams and individuals competed at the Timpanogos XC Invitational last weekend and will be able to seek redemption at the BYU Autumn Classic.

One of those athletes is Tayson Echohawk of Orem (UT). He ran his fastest 5K of the season when he clocked 15:24.60 to finish second by two seconds behind American Fork's Jayden Fitzgarrald. Echohawk earned a 181 speed rating for this performance.

On the girls side, Addi Bruening of Herriman (UT) looks to be a lock for the individual race after coming off her first win of the season from the Timpanogos XC Invitational. She clocked 17:56.60 for 5K and earned a 130 speed rating. Her performance is the fastest 5K time so far this year from the state of Utah.

Springville (UT) is the top-ranked team for the girls. The Red Devils were led by underclassmen Emily Sumsion and Savannah Galbraith. Amongst the top five runners, it finished with an average of 19:25.

The Red Devils will look to grab a victory here after finishing third behind American Fork and Lone Peak a few days ago.
