Rafeeg Ayyad- Palestinian runner from Mesquite Poteet. Tremondous talent. Stalky runner weighed like 160-170lbs. 4:15ish miler. 3 time state cc champ. As a soph. ran the 1st mile at the old state CC course in georgetown in 4:38! Keep in mind there was a monster hill at the start at Georgetown. Rafeeg was a Palestinian warrior, but an egomaniac who thought he was black:).

Ricky Gallegos- Crystal City stallion. Ran 9:09 3200m. 4:17mile. His father ran exact same HS mile PR as Ricky II!!! Quit Texas AM after one month! Like Ayyad Ricky was very heavy for a distance runner.. at least 160lbs.

Steve Rolison- Itasca . Small town runner busted a 4:11 mile as a senior. A class 2A legend no doubt. Ran the same year as Jeremy Stalling and Sam Umberhagen. Three outstanding 2A studs in the same year. Stallings ran a 1:49 800M. Umberhagen was a 9:0something 3200m runner!

I know Jeremy ran for Florida and I think he is coaching somewhere now. Schrader will probably know about Steve. I think Schrader coached him back then. I remember Ralph Ahyad. He steeplechased for North Texas I think?? I could be wrong. I remember watching him run the steeple at Texas Relays when I was a freshman in college. I remember Ricky Gallegos. I think he went to UTSA?

Rafeeg Ayyad- He went to Texas Tech. He had a great 2 years or so at Tech and then stopped running. He qualified for the NCAA Indoor Mile.

Steve Rolison- I competed in 2A when Steve, Sammy, and Stallings ran in the early 90\'s. With 1:49, 4:12, 9:28 that group was probably the best 2A has ever seen. Steve went to college somewhere in Louisana. I don\'t know how he did in college. Stallings had a great career at U of Florida and competed at Olympic trials. Sammy ran for Southwest Texas. I belive he qualified for NCAA\'s Indoors in the Mile.

Ricky Gallegos- He was a legend in the 90\'s. He did great in Cross Country. I think he qualified for Footlocker Nationals 2-3 times. I don\'t know what happened to him after HS. I know his dad is listed as a 4:12 miler in the 60\'s for Crystal City.

According to his teammates at a&m Gallegos was very homesick and missed his girlfriend. I don\'t know if he ever tried to make a comeback though? He was every bit as talented as culpepper in hs.

Steve went to Louisiana Tech. Sammy still has the school record for the indoor mile at SWT. He used to work at Run Tex and train under Stan Huntsman.

I don\'t know what it\'s worth, but the date and his age makes it probable, especially with such a unique name. It is unfortunate if this is the same person.

An interesting side note. On the night of the 92 state meet Steve Rolison had failed a class making him ineligible for the Regional meet. At the state meet that year at 1.30am in the morning he ran 4.16. Fastest time in the state in all divisions that weekend. This is on tape.

Chris, as you recall, that class of 1993 was a remarkable bunch.

Jason Lunn from Sugarland Dulles ran 1:52, 4:10, and 9:02.

Brian Klein from Gonzales ran 4:09 at TX Relays.

Unberhagen (4:15, 9:13), Stallings (4:14, 1:49) and Rolison (4:12, 1:53?, 9:29)all re-wrote the 2a record books.

Other fellows under the radar that year included Berhane Reddy from Waco High of all places running 9:14;

Dusty Dunfield from Brenham running 4:15ish (who tragically had a spinal cord injury the next fall after being thrown into a fountain on the UT campus after a night of partying);

Adam Reiser from Bellaire who actually was 5A state champ in the 3200, running 9:11 in 95 degree heat outkicking Brent Hauser. He ran 9:09 at his regional meet.

Andres Gomez from Hurst L.D. Bell, one of only two or three runners at the time to ever repeat as 5A cross country champ (Alan Culpepper of EP Coronado in \'89 and \'90 being one other). Andres ran 9:06 in the 3200.

Klein had a good career at Rice, then went to California. Had some injury trouble, and I lost track of him around 2000. He was amazing to watch in high school. That was a great Texas Relays in \'93. It\'s a shame Klein didn\'t run that at state, too, so it would be in the State meet records.

Umberhagen went to UT, SWT, and then somewhere in Arkansas, for some reason. Last I heard, he was still running around Austin somewhere. The way he and Stallings and Rolison competed was something to watch.

Any of these kids competing still?

I seem to remember seeing Reiser and Klein at a bunch of all-comers meets at Rice through the years. Didn\'t Klein do the 800-1500 combo at Rice? I thought Reiser was more of a distance guy. Don\'t know much about either, but I heard their names on the speakers while they were running.

Sorry, but I just don\'t think Palestinians are black...They are Middle Eastern. African yes, but you are not black, man. I praised your running ability, but you can try to accept criticism too.

As you might have already found out Mr. Ayyad, people talk so much crap on here it\'s not even funny. To take anything personally on here is a joke (ex: Scott MacPherson, TexasTrack Guy\'s Blog, Steve Magness, Nichole Jones vs. Brenna Willamson cases). Many are just fans and don\'t know the runner personally and like to make things more then they really are. So trying to defend yourself on here is like a blind squirrel finding a nut - Virtually impossible.

What about that poor squirrel\'s sense of smell, or what if he uses \'The Force\'?

And then to the squirrel I would say: \"May The Force be with you.\" and be carried off to the nearest crazy house.

Ralph, what\'s going on man? It\'d be cool to see you come back and pound on the local yahoos in some 5ks in Dallas. I\'m 30 lbs. heavier than I was in 1992! So I guess that make me stocky too....
Peace
