For nearly 30 years, half-milers across the country have been chasing Bell Gardens' (Calif.) Michael Granville and his national record of 1:46.45.

Many had tried, and few had come very close, but a certain sophomore from Justin Northwest (Texas) finally made history this season, breaking Granville's record by nearly one-fifth of a second in 1:46.26.

Cooper Lutkenhaus followed that up with a huge PB of 1:45.45, becoming the first high schooler under 1:46.

Lutkenhaus wasn't alone, as hundreds of other middle-distance standouts lowered their PBs throughout the season, too.

NOTE: Athletes who have not improved their times year-over-year are not included
