Analysis: Leachman began to tap in to her potential as the 2022 season progressed.
During cross country, she set a season's best of 18:16 and then finished 20th at the UIL Cross Country State Championships. She competed in one indoor race last winter, which resulted in a seventh-place finish at Nike Indoor Nationals in the two mile with a personal best of 10:31.
As the 2023 spring season arrived, Leachman began to finish with top-place finishes. As a freshman, she won her first UIL state title in the 1,600m with a new best of 4:47. She set another personal best of 10:17 in the 3,200m at her district meet.
As she competed on the national stage, Leachman finished third overall at Nike Outdoor Nationals in the two mile with a U.S. No. 6 performance of 9:57. She was the top-ranked freshman and was one of seven girls in 2023 to break 10 minutes at this distance.
