We may not be reaching to say Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is the GOAT of high school track and field.
She owns two jaw-dropping national records in the 300mH and 400mH and reached the Olympics at the age of 17 in 2016.
At that time, she was the youngest athlete to ever feature for the United States. A year later? She was in a Union Catholic uniform.
McLaughlin-Levrone was a legendary high school athlete who was celebrated for many things. But what her admirable is that she made sure to not move too fast. She went to college for a year before turning pro.
Everything has turned out right for the former Union Catholic star. The two-time Olympic and three-time World champion is the World record-holder at 400mH.
Those records, though? Only two girls in history have gone under 40 seconds for 300mH. McLaughlin-Levrone is the only one to run faster than 39 seconds. She's also the only high school athlete to go under 55 in the 400mH ....in fact, she ran 53.82 in 2017.
