It was a battle between Daniel Boone (TN) teammates Connor Wingfield and Levi Streeval in the high school races at the adidas XC Challenge.

Three seconds separated Winfgield from Streeval as the former crossed the finish line in 15:19.9 and Streeval followed in 15:22.2. They were the only two athletes to break 15:30 in this meet. Their performance equaled a 185 speed rating. 

As to be expected, the Mount Tabor (NC) boys won the championship with 86 points. The team that consisted of upperclassmen finished with a 15:58 average for 5K. 

Three boys finished in the top 12 to help solidify the victory. Will Soule, who finished fifth, led the team to victory and Douglas Gledhill and Davis Potter finished ninth and 11th. Luke Armentrout and Jeremy Kern finished 36th and 38th to be the fourth and fifth runners for this team. 

Weddington (NC) and Cutherbtson (NC) were the top-ranked programs going into the meet and have faced each other already this year at the Providence Cross Country Invitational and Friday Night Lights.

This weekend, Weddington (NC) earned 65 points to earn the team title. Marist finished second with 98 points, Bolles finished third with 104 and Cuthbertson finished fourth with 152 points.

Jillian Candelino of Bolles (FL) went on to grab the girls victory. She won the meet in 17:38.9 and earned a 139 speed rating. Two other girls broke 18 minutes for 5K at the WakeMed Soccer Complex.

Ruby Little a sophomore from Marist (GA) finished second in 17:49.9 and finishing four seconds behind her was the senior Caroline Murrell of Northwood (NC) who clocked a 17:53.9 for third.
