Event: Girls 100mH, Long Jump
Breakdown: It's been a slow but steady rise up the charts for Saunders in Virginia, who's just a sophomore but features some national-level talent.
A versatile athlete who can long jump, high jump, hurdle and sprint, she'll focus on the short hurdles and long jump in this meet.
Interestingly enough, Saunders' PR in the 100mH came as an eighth-grader at the AAU National Club Championships when she went 14.20. Look for the Virginia athlete to down that time at some point this season.
The same can be said for the long jump. Saunders last PR'ed two years ago with a mark of 19 feet, 3 inches. The long move toward the top of Virginia's leaderboard is the first of a two-step process for Saunders to putting laying down some serious efforts.
