5-6. Libby McGrath/Krianne McBride
School: San Antonio Home School/Leander Home School
Events: 1-mile, 2-mile
Outlook: Get ready for a fun show in the distance events. McGrath, a sophomore, is one of the top private school runners in Texas, while McBride is racing up -- age-wise she's in the eighth-grade, though she tested out of the grade academically -- and is coming off a really successful cross country season. McBride is looking for good competition, and she'll find it in McGrath, who finished second in the 1-mile last year (5:11.82) and won the 2-mile (10:56.42).
McBride should be able to compete with McGrath on that level when you consider her time in the 1500m (4:41.87) and 3K (10:07.74) from the AAU Junior Olympics. But she's transitioning from cross country and hasn't put down much speed work. Still, these races should be fun.
