The Scoop: The Return Of Some Of The Nation's Best

What Just Happened At The Liberty Bell Invitational?

- - -

In one of the top regular season meets in Colorado, a runner out of the jayvee race ran the fastest overall time on Saturday at the Liberty Bell Invitational in Littleton, Colorado.

OK, we should qualifier this.

Mountain Vista (CO) High School junior Easton Allred wasn't in the 'Sweepstakes B' race because he wanted to do be. Over the preseason, as Allred transferred from Rock Canyon to his new school, the Colorado state association ruled the junior to be ineligible for the season based on transfer rules in the state.

Starting this weekend, Allred began what will be a very interesting season in jayvee races. While he won't be eligible for any of Colorado's main races, including the state championship, he will have an opportunity to race at the national level.

He won the jayvee race in 15:17.00, which was nearly 100 seconds faster than his sophomore teammate, Kyler Boe (16:55.40). In the varsity race, Allred's varsity squad, squeaked by Albuquerque Academy to win the overall team title with 110 points on a 33-second spread.

Niwot junior Cruz Culpepper won the varsity race in 15:28.50, while Mountain Vista senior Brody Dempsey was sxith in 15:44.7.

Over in the Division I individual race, Valor Christian junior Cole Sprout cruised to a title in 15:33.60.

Meanwhile, in the girls varsity sweepstakes race, preseason MileSplit50 No. 1 Mountain Vista dominated competition with 34 points as junior Jenna Fitzsimmons flew into the finish line with a winning time of 17:29.10--just nine seconds off her PR from NXR Southwest last season.

Impressively, the squad featured a 64-second spread, a 17:54 average and its top five in through the first 15 places. Better yet, the team's sixth placed 20th.

It was an impressive race out of the country's No. 1 ranked team thus far.
