The Weekend Rundown: The Best Action From Around The Country

In a battle between nationally ranked programs, the Mountain View (Idaho) girls posted a 12-point victory against Sunset (Oregon) on Saturday at the prestigious Nike Portland XC Invitational, scoring 77 points.

Mountain View was led by front-runner Lexy Halladay, who won the race in 17:19.60, while Sunset's No. 1, Ember Stratton, was third overall in 17:39.70.

Sunset ultimately had a stronger top three, finishing 3-4-12 against Mountain's trio of 1-10-14, but when it comes to cross country depth always tells the story.

Mountain View ultimately shored up the back of their lineup with finishes in 21st and 31st place, while Sunset's fourth and fifth came through in 33rd and 37th.

This was a great matchup between two out-of-state teams and possibly a snapshot of what's to come in December at NXN.

Mountain View averaged 18:30 across its five runners, while Sunset, led by its top duo in sub-18, averaged 18:36.
