The Last Chance Invitational Results

Twenty days in track and field can feel like a lifetime.

But for those who use those days wisely, good things will come.

Which brings us to Max Armstrong

It was just 20 days ago that the Vestavia Hills senior opened with an 800m time of 1:55.20 in Birmingham.

On Saturday, he cropped a full three seconds off that performance, scoring a U.S. No. 1 time of 1:52.17 at the Last Chance Invitational, highlighting a weekend that saw three nation-leading efforts go down at the meet.

Armstrong's ascendance comes just a year after the graduation of Alex Leath, who was a national indoor runner-up at the distance indoors and a seventh-place finisher at Brooks PR with a PR -- and school record -- of 1:49.84.

Elsewhere, Cold Springs (AL) senior Ethan Edgeworth continued his assault on the Alabama leaderboard, hitting for a new career best time of 4:10.53, giving him two state-leading performances in the 1,600m and 3,200m.

That performance also leap-frogged him into the U.S. No. 1 position in the country.

In the field, Etowah's Luke Stradley pocketed a new career best mark of 24 feet, 9.75 inches in the long jump, also a new U.S. No. 1 effort.

His winning triple jump of 47-3 puts him at U.S. No. 11.
