Shamar Heard has always enjoyed football, going back to when he started playing the sport when he was nine years old.
Despite being listed at 5-foot-9 and 145 pounds, Heard played well last year as a junior wide receiver and kick returner at Chippewa Valley (MI) High School.
Syracuse, Central Michigan, Kent State, Miami (OH) and Toledo all offered Heard football scholarships.
Still, Heard recently decided that he would give up football.
It's not that his passion for the sport waned. It's just that Heard understood he had a brighter future in track, where he is an elite sprinter and MileSplit's No. 15 boys recruit in the Class of 2024.
