L'Mio Edwards has had a breakthrough senior year at Claremont (CA) High School.
She is currently U.S. No. 3 in the 800m in 2:06.01, breaking her previous personal-best by more than three seconds. And she recently committed to the University of Pennsylvania.
Edwards is making an impact away from the track, too.
She has started the Team L'Mio Foundation, which in January gained 501(c) status as a nonprofit organization. The foundation has launched the Poetic Archives program, where Edwards is encouraging local middle school students to write poems on historical minority figures.
