A lot of things to unpack from Louie Bing over the weekend.

The first: Aleesa Samuel's transformation in the 110m hurdles.

The Pembroke Pines Somerset Academy sophomore had a very good freshman campaign, complete with two third-place Class 2A state finishes in the 100m and 200m and a state championship in the 100mH.

But consider this: She started her outdoor campaign in the high hurdles at 14.09.

On Saturday? She ran a new wind-legal state record, clocking a time of 13.26 seconds. With a negative 2.0 wind

You can't make that improvement up. Samuel was straight up phenomenal, just 0.12 seconds shy of the state's overall fastest time of 13.14, which was done with a positive 3.2 meters-per-second wind.

The other big storyline from the weekend?

Could we have the next Anthony Schwartz-Tyson Campbell on our hands at American Heritage?

Gosh, it sure looks like it right now.

On Saturday, the freshman tandem of Zamarri Sanders and Brandon Bennett went 1-2 in the 100m, authoring wind-legal times of 10.40 (+1.7) and 10.43, respectively, to win the event.

Schwartz, a multiple-time Florida state champion before his graduation in 2018, finished his career with a Florida No. 2 time of 10.09 and a 200m best of 20.47. Campbell went 10.41 and 20.83. Schwartz is currently in the NFL, while Campbell is coming off a national team championship with Georgia this past college football season.

I guess we'll just have to see what Sanders and Bennett take us over the next few weeks. But early indications are good.

Other Notes:

  • Cynteria James, a senior from Miami Southridge, ran 23.31w seconds in the 200m. Her squad also won the 4x100 in 47.26, though it well below the team's seed time of 45.7 ... perhaps they have time.
  • Kaj Baker, a freshman from Pembroke Pines Somerset Academy, won the 200m in 21.24.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas' Anthony Herrera won the 800m in 1:53.85.
