A singular focus on cross country and track and field marked some of our most popular content in 2022.
While our most read pieces of the past year revolved around tragedy and controversy and courage, a large percentage of work also centered around what this sport is all about: Performance. Stories about excellence, history, records and more proliferated our top pieces.
More than anything, our readers were interested in how athletes and teams were succeeding on the track, in the field and on the grass. In New York, for instance, seven of our top 30 stories were previews and recaps. The brilliant sub-4 races of Gary Martin and Rheinhardt Harrison were also included in our top 50 list, along with breaking news on Irene Riggs' all-time level cross country race in November and Addy Wiley's mile in June.
