CBA Boys Were Electric At Shore Conference

* Christian Brothers Academy's Joe Barrett grabbed the victory and led the team to a title at the Shore Conference

Christian Brothers Academy (NJ), MileSplit's No. 5 boys team, was electric this weekend at the Shore Conference Championships on Thursday at Ocean County Park.

Sophomore Joe Barrett won the meet with a new personal 5K best performance of 14:59.76. He shaved nearly 70-seconds off his performance as a freshman.

CBA was able to get all five of their scoring runners within the top 10 to earn 23 points with an average of 15:25. Barrett, Nicholas Sullivan, Jack Falkowski, Alex Kemp, and Zach Shroba finished with a 47-second spread.

Stephen Kyvelos of Manapalan (NJ) was able to break up the third and fourth place finishes from CBA and clocked a new lifetime best of 15:00.25 for second.

Southern Regional (NJ) finished second with 65 points and Colts Neck (NJ) was third with 123 points.

* Freehold Townships' Emma Zawatski grabbed the gold at the Shore Conference Championships

On the girls side, Emma Zawatski of Freehold Township (NJ) completed her third race of the season. She added another victory to her resume and clocked a new personal best of 17:09 to win.

Looking at Zawatski's resume, this was her first time dipping under that 18-minute barrier in her career.

Zawatski, Cate DeSousa, Lily Oliver, and Tilly O'Connor were the only girls on Thursday who broke 18 minutes. DeSousa was second in 17:15 and Oliver was third with a 17:32 performance. O'Connor finished fourth with a 17:54 5K.

Zawatski's performance led Freehold Township to a six-point victory over Rumson-Fair Haven. Red Bank Catholic was third with 140 points.
