No. 20: Mountain View (UT)

Analysis: There's always a certain kind of math you do when predicting success from year-to-year. On paper, Mountain View, Utah's returning 5A state champions, have just three athletes returning from a team that finished 12th at the Garmin RunningLane Cross Country Championships last fall. But when you consider the addition of Parker Barnes, who had to run JV last year due to a transfer, his inclusion makes this team that much stronger. 

Barnes will add a capable cohort to lead-runner Liam Heninger, who was fourth at the Utah Class 5A Championships a season and who ran a PR of 14:39.70 at RunningLane. Barnes posted a top time of 14:59. That gives Mountain View, which runs at elevation in Orem, two capable low-sticks to set a certain kind of standard in any race they run. Right now, we have Mountain View as Utah's third-best team to start 2022. 

Biggest Question: Will Mountain View claim another title with Timpanogos, Orem, Lehi and Springville chasing? 

Utah gets going early, and it annually holds some of the top talent in the United States. But whether it's the 5A or 6A division, programs are absolutely loaded in this state. While Mountain View claimed a 5A title last year with 88 points -- over Timpanogos -- this is one of our burning questions: Will the squad return with another title in 2022?
