Analysis: The returning OHSAA Division I champions have five runners back for the fall, only there's a slight footnote there: They've lost their top two athletes from a season ago -- two runners who finished 19th and 20th at the state meet.
Mason had two non-seniors finish inside the top 50 at states -- only six Mason athletes finished the race -- but ultimately depth only goes so far. You also need to strike at the top of the race, too.
And yet, a year of development goes a long way. Senior Keith Neuburger and juniors Jerry Xu and Max Liao will likely lead this team from the front as they try to defend their Division I title.
Biggest Question: What kind of young talent will boost Mason's top seven?
With upperclassmen returning for 2022, the coaching staff at Mason will need to develop young runners to fit inside this lineup to keep it pushing forward beyond this season. How will the impact of the young guys influence the team this year and beyond?
