Breakdown: Could this be Victoria Starcher's breakout race of the 2019 cross country season? The Ripley (WV) High School senior will toe the line on the Tom Sawyer Park course after winning this race and setting a meet record as a sophomore. But that time was broken in 2018 -- Niki Narayani produced a 17:57.00 effort -- so Starcher will something to run for here. She'll go up against Ciara O'Shea, a Madison Central (KY) freshman who's in fine form. The first-runner high school runner went 17:50.10 at the Saturday Night Lights race in Centerville on Sept. 21. She's won three other races thus far.
The boys field will include Madison Central's Conner O'Shea, who's scored a best of 15:19.60 -- from that same Saturday Night Lights race -- and Muhlenberg County's (KY) Jonah Mitchell, who ran 15:55.30 at the Rumble Through the Jungle Invitational on Sept. 7 and went 15:55.50 at the Trinity/Valkyrie Invitational on Sept. 21.
