School: Valor Christian
Year: Class of 2020
Analysis: Cole Sprout kicks off the season as the MileSplit50 No. 1. He will be the top returner if he makes it back to NXN in December. This year he will be chasing after the win after finishing third in 2018. He's going to see some tough competition at nationals and even regionals again this year from plenty of other guys on this list, including Newbury Park's (CA) Nico Young, Jesuit's (CA) Matt Strangio, and even in-state against guys like Dakota Ridge's (CO) Connor Ohlson and Niwot's (CO) Cruz Culpepper. Sprout is no stranger to intense competition as he's been to NXN two years in a row and competed in several national-level track meets. This past spring, in particular, he was the Class 5A Colorado State Track and Field Champion in the 1600m and 3200m; the Music City Distance Carnival mile champion, running 4:04.19; and the Brooks PR Invitational 2-mile champion, running 8:46.41. His mile time was the sixth-fastest mile time of the 2019 track season, while his 2-mile time was the fastest.
