Upset City At 54th Annual McQuaid Invitational
The guys from Dana Hills High School (CA) flew across the country to compete at the McQuaid Invitational and made the performance worth it.
The team, led by senior Cole Stark, took the win in the boys Varsity Seeded AAA race. The team upset MileSplit50 No. 5-ranked Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake who ultimately ended up finishing in third. We made a note in the last MileSplit50 that Burnt Hills could be beaten due to a lack of depth through five runners and that would appear to be what happened. The Spartans had a 1:22 1-5 split and a 15:22 average while the Dolphins had a much better compression of only 30 seconds and a 15:08 average. Burnt Hills was led again by Tyler Berg who got the individual win in 14:34.90 in a down-to-the-wire battle against Saratoga Springs' Shea Weilbaker. Dana Hills had two guys in the top 10 and all seven in the top 40. MileSplit No. 24 Corning came in fourth.

The girls Varsity Seeded AAA race also had its fair share of upsets. MileSplit50 No. 14 Brooke Rauber (NY) placed second to unranked Jenna Schulz from Liverpool (NY). Schulz won running 16:52.20 while Rauber finished second in 16:59.00. In the team battle, No. 13 Liverpool (NY) placed second to Lee's Summit West High School (MO). The score was 74 to 86. MileSplit50 No. 20 Shenendehowa (NY) finished fifth behind West Springfield (NY) and Niskayuna (NY).
