Cole Sprout Shines Under The Lights At Desert Twilight 

The Desert Twilight XC Festival saw sparks on Friday night in Casa Grande, Arizona. Valor Christian High School's Cole Sprout took the win against the loaded field in the sweepstakes boys race. Sprout took home the victory in 14:32.90, which is a new US No. 1 time for 5K this year. Sprout beat MileSplit50 No. 21 Kashon Harrison, who last year got him just at the line in the same race. Harrison would end up finishing third behind Niwot High School's Cruz Culpepper; the two ran 14:43.60 and 14:49.50. The guys from El Paso Eastwood (TX) took the team win by one point 112 to 113 over Niwot High School (CO). 

In the girls race, we got to see a down-to-the-wire finish aginst between Peak to Peak Charter School's (CO) Quinn McConnell and Chaparral High School's (AZ) Abi Archer. McConnell would get the win in 17:00.10 while Archer would finish just behind her in 17:01.30. Last year's champion, Rio Rico's (AZ) Samantha Schadler, ended up finishing in fifth. The ladies from Boise Senior High School would pick up another big win with a solid 56-second 1-5 split and a 17:57 average.
