The 2017 outdoor track season saw 39 athletes break the sub-9 barrier in the 3200m.

But in terms of milestones for distance runners on the boys side, this is one of the premier benchmarks for elite competitors.

Who will do it in 2018?

While it's becoming increasingly more common for high school boys to achieve -- especially because invitationals often brining the best talent together to help buoy those marks -- that should by no means discredit the magnitude of the feat.

Of the 39 athletes who broke 9 minutes, only 10 of them are returning for the 2018 campaign.

Here is that list:

*Note: Brentwood's (TN) Brodey Hasty has also run under 9:00 for both 3200m and 2 Miles, but he has not run a sub-9 race in the 3200m during the outdoor track season -- his two sub-9s came in the fall during time trials on the track. He is considered the top returning distance runner -- and a runner who could certainly achieve this feat -- but he wouldn't be on this list by virtue of that fact.

So far, a number of athletes across the country have turned in impressive 3000m and 3200m times so we gathered a list of athletes outside of this top 10 returners who we could see breaking 9-minutes for the 3200m this outdoor track season as a result of early indoor season performances.
