Brady Mullen couldn't have scripted a better way to win his first LHSAA 5A State Championships title.

He was announced victorious in the 3,200m in record-breaking fashion, as he battled through the Louisana heat and humidity.

In a solo effort inside Lousiana State University's Bernie Moore Track Stadium, Mullen crossed the finish line in 8:48.36 to shatter the previous record of 9:06, which was set back in 1996.

Mullen came through the first 400m in 63 seconds and 4:23 for the first 1,600m. What helped Mullen get to the finish line was the support of the crowd behind him the last 150m,

"That was probably a top three moment at least," Mullen told MileSplit after his race. "That crowd was cheering for me, even if they were a rival school. I knew they wanted me to run fast."

What's next for Mullen?

The junior will contest the 1,600m at the RunningLane Track Championships in three weeks.
