As a Westlake sophomore, Sidi Njie was already having a tremendous season. He had won region and sectional titles in both the 200m and 400m, and had ran blazing times of 21.21 and 46.03 in just his second year of high school track.

However, at the state championships, Njie leveled up, clocking the fastest 400m time ever ran by a high schooler in the state of Georgia. As he crossed the finish line, the clock stopped at 45.46, lowering the fresh record of 45.78 that Will Sumner had set just a year prior.

Njie's mark ended the 2023 high school season as the No. 3 time in the country, as he was one of just eight athletes under 46 last year.

Njie will have another chance to break the record this weekend at the GHSA 7A State Championships where he's entered in the 200m and 400m.
