Caleb Hoover, sophomore at College Heights Christian School in Joplin, came out of nowhere last season to finish 2nd overall in Class 1 cross country behind teammate Ethan Beaver and helped to lead his team to the title with a Class 1 record of merely 17 points. As great as that sounds, Caleb looks back upon that day with disappointment.

There are returning champions, and open throwns up for grabs on the hills and thrills of the redesigned Hershey Parkview course – featuring the Aloha Hills of Mile 2 and the newly minted Poop-Out Hill of Mile 3.

On the strength of its record-setting performance in winning the Sweepstakes race at the Mt. SAC Invitational, Saugus (CA) moves past Fayetteville-Manlius into the top spot in the team rankings.

PEARL RIVER – The girls’ chatter flew just above the boys’. Pearl River girls cross country coach Dan Doherty sat in the front and gazed out the window while the yellow school bus merged onto the Palisades Parkway. When the bus pulled into the parking lot, Doherty stepped off first. He stood a few feet from the bus on the edge of the park at Bear Mountain where they would win the Rockland County championship. He stopped before he entered the field and dug the toe of his sneakers in the dirt and waited. Doherty never called a meeting but one by one the girls crowded in front of him and waited for direction.

Tatnall, a small Delaware private school with big aspirations, has positioned itself amongst the nation's best.

Voyles, whose father is the assistant track coach at White County, has been a force to be reckoned with since she moved to Tennessee from California in time for the 2006 cross country season. She is the possessor of impressive personal records ranging from a 2:17 800m to an 18:50 5k cross country race. In 2007, she was a double-state champion on the track, winning both the A/AA 1600m and the A/AA 3200m while representing Macon County High School. She finished tenth overall at the 2007 AAA State Cross Country Championship.

Taylor Lord turned in the fastest time in the nation, a 14:43.96 clocking, at the Douglas County Championships, Thursday. GATFXC.com's Bruce Taylor caught up with Lord after his sizzling performance.

Cuffe, in her rookie cross country season, was on the course for the first time. They zipped across the field at Bowdoin Park and started up the steady, grueling hills when Cuffe thought to herself the very thing that is making her the breakout star of the season.

MileSplit US #13 Lincoln-Sudbury and #14 Saratoga Springs square off at the Brown Invitational in Warwick, RI to highlight a weekend of action that will include many conference championship meets across the country.

Greater Latrobe senior Natalie Bower clocked a course record 17:58. Appel over Nicolls; Regis Jesuit prevails at Colorado Regionals. Natosha Rogers returns to pick up an indvidual title as well.

All of the top girls teams remain intact in the latest NSSF XC Regional Rankings. On the boys side, Don Bosco Prep (Northeast) and Buchanan (CA) vault to #1 after impressive performances last weekend.

#10 in a Series: What makes a T&F fan? Fred Carlson AKA sverige55 and known by the teams around Pittsburgh as Mr C, was raised in Connecticut and attended Simsbury High School. As a HS athlete he ran a 4:27 mile and a 9:47 2-mile.

No one is saying that the Eastern States races at the Manhattan Invitational Saturday are the be-all, end-all of cross country races. But when you line up some of the best teams in the country, people expect sparks to fly.

Warwick Valley star Lillian Greibesland underwent successful surgery to repair her ruptured right Achilles’ tendon at New York Hospital for Special Surgery Wednesday. She’ll miss the rest of the cross country season and the entire indoor track season.

A battle between the top two girls teams in Pa. at the Paul Short Invitational (Bethlehem, Pa.) highlights another busy weekend of action throughout the country. MileSplit will be on site at meets in PA, NJ, FL, CO, ME, TX, and NC to provide coverage.

Bromfield's Emily Jones kick started her invitational season with a dominating victory in the Girls Championship Race at the Ocean State Cross Country Invitational in Rhode Island last weekend. It was the first major race for Jones, whom is eyeing a return trip to San Diego in December.
