The Scoop: Sydney McLaughlin Sets Another WJR In 400 Hurdles

Georgia's State Championships Were On Fire

The Georgia High School Association Class Championships, were, as expected, pretty lit.

1. North Springs' Jayda Drake-Howard ran a US No. 4 time of 13.55 seconds in the 100mH, narrowly escaping the grasps of Stockbridge's Darci Khan, who went 13.56 seconds in the Class 5A final.

2. Buford's Alexa Rossum went 11.73 seconds in the 100m preliminaries and then finished off her display with a win in the Class 5A race in 11.78 seconds. She also contributed to Buford's 4x100 win.

3. Trinity Price, the emerging freshman sprinter, won her first Georgia championship in 23.85 (-0.3) seconds and also set a new PR of 23.58 (-0.7) during the prelims. It was her second straight performance under 24 seconds since regionals.

4. It was basically a show for Buford. Junior Kim Harris, who at one point took over the national lead in the 400m, won the quarter lap in 53.31 seconds. Price was second. Harris, meanwhile, won her second championship in the long jump with a leap of 20-2.5, a US No. 4 mark.

5. Buford's girls went a ridiculous 45.17 seconds in the 4x100, slotting right behind US No. 1 DeSoto, which went 45.16 at the UIL Championships this weekend.

6. Fayette County's Trey Johnson reentered into the national discussion for 400m again -- after a very good indoor season -- culminating his state season with a US No. 5 mark of 46.37 seconds.
