The Scoop: Sydney McLaughlin Sets Another WJR In 400 Hurdles

Sydney McLaughlin Can't Be Stopped!

What can't Sydney McLaughlin do at this point?

The University of Kentucky freshman lined up for the 400 meter hurdles at the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships for just the second time in 2018 and scored the win, a career best and a new World Junior Record of 52.75 seconds.

She ran a preliminary time of 54.85 seconds and also featured in the 4x400 for the Wildcats, which took home the conference title in 3:25.99.

McLaughlin had previously run the 400mH just once at Kentucky this spring. That came in April during the Arkansas National Relay Championships in a time of 53.60 seconds, which was also her personal best and a World Junior Record.
She first set a World Junior Record in 2016 during the US Olympic Trials, finishing third against professionals in a time of 54.15 seconds ...when she was 17 and just a high school junior. But over time, McLaughlin has continued to lower that mark over and over again, doing it again last June at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

McLaughlin is currently three seconds faster than any hurdler in the NCAA at the distance. LSU's Kymber Payne has run 55.92.
