Roesler's Breakout Season Scott Bush Aug 3, 2008

Before the '07-'08 track season, North Dakota's Laura Roesler was already a growing legend in her home state. As a freshman Roesler won quadruple gold at her state track and field championships, winning the 100, 200, 400 and 800m dash events. Despite the success, Roesler wasn't as well known outside her state, but it seemed it was only a matter of time. A strong fall led to an ever impressive spring, one that saw Roesler win four more state titles, but then go on a tear at 800m, lowering her time dramatically and reaching into U.S. top ten all-time status. The capping point on the season came at the Olympic Trials, an event that saw Roesler make the semi-finals and become one of the crowd favorites amongst a field of professional runners. This is the story of her season.

Ryann Krais puts in all-time performances after graduation - and even slips away for Senior Week... Ryann Krais Jul 25, 2008

Ryann Krais will leave her Pennsylvania prep career with two outdoor state records, a remarkable 57.20 in the 400 hurdles that broke the previous mark by future teammate, and now world class hurdler Nicole Leach (West Catholic).... and her 41.20 300 hurdles set earlier this summer at the Great Southwest Classic in New Mexico. But Krais also holds two of the top five all-time prep performances in the heptathlon - #2 of 5522, also set at Great Southwest, and #5 of 5457 set at this month's IAAF World Junior Championships in Poland. Those who know Ryann, know she is as gracious in victory as she is when the occasional disappointment strikes. And in true Krais form, she was gracious enough to take time after a whirlwind summer jetting and competing from Albuquerque, NM; to Columbus, OH; to Eugene, OR; to Bydgoszcz, Poland... to share her throughts on her final competitions. Olympic Trials in Review: 3 Virginians will head to Beijing, others will have to wait till London MileSplit Staff Jul 7, 2008

The "Tracktown USA" TV commercials were right on about the USA Olympic track and field team being the toughest team to make as many Virginians found out the hard way over the past two weeks in Eugene, Oregon at the Olympic Trials. Only three Virginians will be competing at the 2008 Beijing Olympics with Lashawn Merritt in the men's 400 meter dash and both Queen Harrison and Sheena Tosta (formerly Sheena Johnson) in the women's 400 meter hurdles. Merritt has an excellent opportunity at winning Olympic gold after defeating the 2004 Athens Olympics champion Jeremy Wariner at Hayward field, while Harrison and Tosta certainly will go to China believing they can run with the best in the World and challenge for top three medals. Merritt's mild upset over Wariner and Harrison's improbable return from an injury at NCAA Nationals and leaping over a fallen hurdler late in the Trials finals were the top highlights and best stories of the meet among the Virginian natives, but there were also many stories of disappointments, heartbreak, and pleasant surprises as well. Read more... Note: MileStat.com will be attempting to get exclusive interviews with many of the Virginians who competed this past week at the Olympic Trials. Look for several to be posted throughout the week. Watch Olympic Trials Videos on NBCOlympics.com

RFF/Olympic Trials Film Review: The Long Green Line Showcases the York H.S. Distance Magic Scott Bush Jul 4, 2008

It was a long time coming, but The Long Green Line finally premiered at the U.S. Olympic Trials Thursday evening in front of a crowd of over 200 people. In 2005, the young men apart of the legendary York High School cross country team were followed throughout the season, as the cameras captured the highs and lows of the season and the high emotions that a cross country team goes through from August until early December. Losing two of their top stars in the back half of the season, having to play with top seven line-ups numerous times and living up to the fatherly embrace coach Joe Newton shows all his athletes made this film one that every high school athlete should watch during their summer training. Overall this film receives a 4.5/5 stars. Read inside for more movie recap and check out The Long Green Line website here.

Demps' Impressive Season is One to Remember Scott Bush Jun 29, 2008

It was a year that perhaps should have earned a U.S. #1 in the 100m dash and being labeled as the top sprinter at the high school level, but it turned out to be so much more. Florida's Jeff Demps (South Lake, FL) (pictured left by Victor Sailor of PhotoRun.net) started the season as a pre-season favorite to be the top 100m sprinter, but by the end he was running next to Tyson Gay in the Olympic Trials, tying a World Junior 100m dash record and quickly being labeled as a potential Team USA Olympic Team member.

Olympic Trials Sunday Coverage: Demps Finishes Eighth in Semi-Finals with 10.34 effort Scott Bush Jun 29, 2008

Florida senior Jeff Demps, of South Lake High School, finished eighth place in his semi-final 100m dash Sunday afternoon.  Demps got off to a shaky start, tried to push in the middle, but couldn't respond to the professional athletes he was competing against.  Demps crossed the line in 10.34, well short of his 10.01 from Saturday evening.  It was a surprising weekend for Demps, advancing from the prelims, advancing from the quarter-finals, while running a new U.S. prep record, a new U.S. junior record and tying the World Junior record.  Detailed story coming shortly.  Men's 100m Semi-Final Results (Courtesy of USATF)

Demps Advances at Trials, 10.12 Wind Legal State Record Jason Byrne Jun 28, 2008

Jeff Demps, recent graduate of South Lake HS and soon-to-be Florida Gator, is competing today at the Olympic Trials in Oregon. Out of the second heat of the first round, he advanced to the quarterfinals with a time of 10.12. The time of 10.03 he ran two weeks ago in Clermont was the best time in the history of the state (and the nation) for a high schooler, but the wind guage put him just above the legal limit--negating his record. However, with the wind legal tonight in Eugene, Oregon and the clock reading 10.12, Jeff holds the uncontested #1 spot on Florida's all-time 100 meter dash list. Ironically, he unseats another athlete who 32 years ago was competing at this same meet. The previous record by Houston McTear was set at the 1976 Trials at 10.16. Jeff's time also puts him #2 All-Time in the nation for a wind legal time. Congrats, Jeff! Demps will compete in the quarterfinals tonight (Saturday) around 8PM Eastern Time. Other Florida natives to advance in the 100 meters include: Walter Dix (Coral Springs/FSU) 9.96, John Capel (Hernando/UF) 10.16, Xavier Carter (Palm Bay/LSU) 10.14, and Chris Hargrett (Dr. Phillips/FAMU) 10.19.
