THE FINAL STRETCH

Saturday in Xiamen had no shortage of history. Masai Russell ran 12.14 in the women's 100m hurdles - a new American record, the second-fastest time ever run, and 0.02 off Tobi Amusan's world record of 12.12 set in Eugene in 2022. Russell won comfortably, with Amusan finishing second in 12.28. Earlier in the same meet, 18-year-old Yan Ziyi of China threw the javelin 71.74m - the second-longest women's javelin throw in history and a new U20 world record.

High school track and field had its own weekend. RunningLane brought the country's best distance runners to Huntsville. A sophomore in Chattanooga who only picked up the sport two years ago won four events at the Tennessee state championships and led his school to its first team title in program history. Cooper Lutkenhaus skipped the last day of high school to race a 1500m in Los Angeles. These are just some of the highlights.
