The first slate of April racing was electric, with state records shattered by a couple of up-and-coming athletes. Another big weekend of high-caliber performances was a little preview of what's to come over the next few weeks.
The National Performer of the Week poll will close at 5 p.m. CT on Thursday, April 10, and the winner will be announced shortly after.
Take a look at five of the top-performing girls from last weekend in outdoor track & field.
This Week's Nominees:
Quincy Wilson, Bullis School (Md.): It didn't take long for the 2024 Paris Olympian to garner his first NPOTW nomination of the outdoor season. Down at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Wilson anchored the Bullis 4x400m to a runner-up finish in 3:09.97, the second-fastest mark in the nation this season. In the open 400m, Wilson ran a brisk 45.27, putting him in a tie for the top time in the country. It's also the fastest time of his junior year, indoors or outdoors.
Eric Rose, Leander Glenn (Texas): Wow. Just like that, we have a new threat for the "Best HS Pole Vaulter", and he's only going up from here. At his UIL 5A-District 25 meet, Rose cleared 17-6, nearly a three-inch improvement on his previous PB. Rose moved up into the No. 8 spot in Texas' record books, and has a one-and-a-half-inch lead on the rest of the country.
Owen Spira, Exeter-West Greenwich (R.I.): At his 2025 outdoor debut, Spira opened up in the hammer, throwing 222-9, enough for a national lead. Spira took care of business at the Knights of Columbus Relays, putting himself more than four feet ahead of the next closest thrower. Spira will take his talents out to Des Moines, Iowa, joining the Drake Bulldogs for his collegiate career.
Colin Abrams, Bullis School (Md.): The second of two Bullis superstars in this week's nominations, Abrams got the Bulldogs into a good position out of the gates, running the first leg of the relay. Their final time was 3:09.97, their faster of two sub-3:10 marks at the meet. Abrams also opted for the 800m, where he notched his first outdoor sub-1:50 performance, good enough for the third-fastest time in the country this season.
