From the electric atmosphere of The VA Showcase to the many big performances in the Midwest and the Pacific Northwest, this past weekend of competition was one for the record books, literally. Whether they set national, state, or school records, these five boys added to their respective legacies.
The National Performer of the Week poll will close at 5 p.m. CT on Thursday, January 23, and the winner will be announced shortly after.
Take a look at five of the top-performing boys from last weekend.
This Week's Nominees:
Andrew Salvodon, Bayside (Va.): One of three nominees from The VA Showcase this week, Salvodon was the only one to throw down a national record. In one of the marquee events of the weekend, the 500m, Salvodon pulled off the upset over U.S. Olympian and superstar Quincy Wilson of the Bullis School (Md.). Salvodon shattered the previous record held by Woodstock's Will Sumner (Ga.), breaking the tape in 1:00.49 as the crowd erupted for the hometown favorite. He's the first high schooler to ever break 61 seconds in the 500m.
Cole Boone, Pulaski County (Va.): The junior stuck to his dominant tactics over the weekend in the 1000m. At The VA Showcase, Boone lowered his PB in the process, running 2:23.5 as he led three other boys under 2:25. Boone took out the race in 54.28, before coming through 800m at 1:52.63, the only athlete quicker than 1:54 through 800m. Ultimately, Boone held off the field for the big-time win and is now the fourth-fastest in U.S. history, moving past the national record holder in the mile, South Lakes' (Va.) Alan Webb. Boone is now the fastest freshman and junior in high school history.
Aiden Monistere, Parkview Baptist (La.): After making the 1,100-mile journey to The VA Showcase, Monistere didn't want to leave empty-handed, so he won both the Mile and 2-Mile in a pair of close races. Monistere began his weekend by winning the shorter of the two, crossing in 4:06.56, a quarter of a second ahead of the runner-up. In the 2-mile, Monistere used a hard finish to surge to the line in 8:58.13, just ahead of the runner-up yet again. The Louisiana-based star is now the state record holder in both events.
Tayvon Kitchen, Crater (Ore.): In his first time racing since finishing 11th at Nike Cross Nationals, Kitchen looked pretty fit, running the mile and 3k at the UW Preview in Seattle. The senior more than held his own in fields made up of NCAA champions and world-class professionals, running 4:04.96 and 8:02.02, the No. 2 and No.1 times in the U.S. this winter. The distance star now sits inside the top 30 all-time in the mile, and checks in at No. 5 on the all-time national leaderboard in the 3k, passing several American legends.
Jordan Randall, Unattached (Ind.): Heading into his junior campaign, Randall had never cleared a bar higher than 7-0.5. In his first two meets of the 2025 indoor season, the state medalist has already set PBs twice in as many meets, most recently clearing 7-2.25 for a 1.5-inch improvement. Randall soared above the competition at the MLK Weekend Invite, winning by over a foot. The junior is now a quarter-inch from tying the Indiana state record and is the No. 1 high jumper in the United States right now.
