Chris Neal, the University of Notre Dame's men's distance and cross country coach, didn't wait long to share the news.
Shortly after North Allegheny High School (PA) junior Jack Bertram committed to the Fighting Irish last month, Neal contacted members of the current team, as well as those who will be entering as freshmen in the fall.
Several of his future teammates then reached out to congratulate Bertram.
"They were all just texting me," said Bertram, who added that it reinforced his decision to attend the school. "It was really cool to just receive all those texts. I was super grateful for it. (Having) all those guys as a support team going into college, it'll be really cool."
Bertram is already familiar with a few of the runners he'll be running alongside in college.
