Nicholas Steed's high school track career got off to an inauspicious start.
During his first meet as a freshman at Bishop McNamara (MD) High School in April of 2021, Steed ran 56.70 in the 400m and 2:23.10 in the 800m, finishing 40th and 76th, respectively at a Garden State Track Club event.
He had been a sprinter focusing on the 100m and 200m as a middle-schooler, so it took time adjusting to the longer distances.
Still, instead of getting impatient, Steed kept working and improving.
As a senior, he has become one of the top runners and recruits in the nation.
