The high school Class of 2023 featured numerous boys distance runners who had times that were among the best in history. Still, for the most part, those athletes were either redshirted, injured or brought along slowly this fall as college freshmen.
The patient approach is understandable for college coaches who understand that it takes time for runners to adapt to college and don't want to push their recruits too hard. But there were some exceptions, as evidenced at last weekend's NCAA Cross Country Championships.
The NCAA meet included nine men who were part of the high school Class of 2023 and ran for a U.S. high school. Below, we take a look at them. We excluded runners from other countries.
