Most freshmen athletes need time to adapt to college, even those who were top recruits. 

Still, there are sometimes exceptions.

At Saturday's NCAA Cross Country Championships, 21 true freshmen women competed.

Below, we look at those 21 athletes. We only included women who were part of the high school Class of 2023 and ran for a U.S. high school. We excluded runners from other countries.
