Rodriguez Sisters Fly High In Tillamook
- - -
The first big race of Sophia and Victoria Rodriguez's season came on Saturday at The 'Mook Invitational in Tillamook, Oregon.
The Mercer Island duo didn't hold back.
After a conservative start to the season, Sophia, newly integrating into her Washington high school -- as a high school freshman, in fact -- booked it to the front and claimed the win, earning her fourth straight victory to start the season. The performance was her first under 17 minutes, as she finished in 16:49.78.
Victoria followed in second in 17:03.56, while Owen Powell, Mercer Island's resident star, won the boys race in 14:46.70.
Powell's time is now U.S. No. 12, while Sophia's is U.S. No. 3 and Victoria's is U.S. No. 12.
