Meet Results

While Tommy Latham was just three seconds shy of breaking 15 minutes for 5K at Sam Smith Park on Friday, the Marist (GA) High School junior probably wasn't sweating it.

That's because he earned his first Wingfoot XC Classic win and his second victory in three meets. He was third in this same race last year.

The Georgian claimed the elite boys win in 15:02.30, clocking the third-best time in meet history to secure the victory. It wasn't his third-straight sub-15, but it may have been his most impressive win of the season yet.

James Clemens' Luke Alverson was second in 15:15.2, while Ardrey Kell's Raghav Gopalakrishn was third in 15:18.00.

Alverson's performance led his Alabama squad to the meet victory with 161 points and it held off Brentwood Academy (TN), which was second with 184.

STEGALL WINS ELITE GIRLS RACE

- - -

Much like Latham, Nolensville's Claire Stegall also came up short in her quest to go after the girls record at Sam Smith Park.

But in the end she also claimed the win, clocking a time of 17:21.2, just four seconds short of the meet record.

Stegall, the speedy high school junior from Tennessee, had a full 28 seconds on second-place Caroline Hood of Pace Academy, who finished in 17:49.0.

But Hood shouldn't have been too worried, because her Pace Academy teammates followed with impressive finishes, leading the Georgia private-school to the title with 120 points.
