An athlete is on a different level when they are able to break a state record twice one day in the same event.

Avery Lewis was able to accomplish that.

On Sunday, Lewis ran the prelims where she lowered her previous best from a 7.27, which she ran to win the New Balance Nationals Indoor title last year, to a 7.26. In the finals, she lowered it even more to a 7.22. This performance puts the junior at No. 3 on the national rankings.

Lewis' day was finished, though.

She also clocked a US No. 7 performance of 23.79 in the 200m and improved on her 24.38 best from the beginning of the year. She was able to defend her long jump title with a 19-06.50 leap. This marked her sixth PTFCA Indoor State Championship title in her career.

Lewis wasn't the only girl who had a breakthrough performance.

Kaddel Howard of Cedar Crest (PA) became the fastest freshman in the country with a 55.57 in the 400m. She was able to become the 24th fastest girl in PA history en route to winning her first indoor title. She also finished second to Lewis in the 200m with a 24.59.
